**We’ve borrowed all of these, and many more, from our local library over the past year**
Bf is a total library nerd (love this about him). Bf spends so much time at the local library he knows the librarians (and they know him) on a first name basis. The best part? Bf saves us hundreds of dollars per year using the library.
Here’s a little example of his celebrity status at the library from a few months back:
Background: Bf calls me and asks that I stop by the library on my way home to pick up a recent release DVD that he reserved.
Me-”No problem, do I need a library card or ID?”
Bf-”No just tell them that you’re my gf, they know me”.
Me-”They know you, but they don’t know me, are you sure they’ll let me take the DVD if you’re not there?”.
Bf assures me that there will be, “no problems”. Confession, I’ve never actually been in our local library with bf. Lucky for me, Bf is there so frequently, I just tell him what books I want and he brings them home for me. It’s like my own personalized version of amazon prime, and it’s free!
So I walk over to the library, pop inside, and tell the woman behind the desk that I need to pick up the new release DVD. She asks for my library card (ugg, bf, I told you this would happen!) and I tell her that I don’t have one. She gives me the stink eye and calls out another woman from the back.
When librarian number two arrives, I tell her that that my bf (insert name) asked me to pick up the DVD because he had to work late. Immediately, the whole mood changes and both women begin telling me how sweet the bf is and how often they see him. I went from being a virtual pariah, to being an welcomed and honored guest.
How funny is that? Bf is kind of a big deal at the library.
Bf stops by the library at least weekly to borrow books, dvds, cds and video games. Did you know you can borrow video games (playstation, nintendo etc.) at the library? I had no idea. Is this unique to our library? I’m not sure, but I think that’s pretty cool. Video games are expensive, and something we I wouldn’t spend money on. But bf enjoys playing them once in a while, so borrowing them is a great way for us to save money. Honestly, I can’t even tell you how much it costs to rent a video game because I’ve never rented one, but I can imagine those rental fees add up.
Bf also borrows DVDs at the library. We don’t have netflix, and thanks to bf and our local library we don’t need it. Ditto for books. No need for a book of the month club or trips to the local book store. We can borrow whatever we want and it’s absolutely free. If our library doesn’t have the book we want they inter-library loan it from another local library and call us when it arrives.
Our local library also has a variety of classes and educational seminars. They have book clubs, kids clubs, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. In the summer, they sponsor movies on a big screen in the park (so cool). All, you guessed it, for free! Between the DVD, book, and video game, “rentals” I’d imagine that boyfriend saves us at least $250 per year, maybe more!
