Tonight my mom is coming to visit, yay! Bf and I are having an unofficial and very late housewarming/Cinco De mayo party on Saturday night. We’re going to have Qdoba catering, margaritas, Dos Equis and pinatas. Survivor dog will be dressing up like a chihuahua and we’ll all don fake mustaches and vintage embroidered Mexican tunics.
Ok, the dog won’t be dressed as anything and we probably won’t be wearing mustaches or costumes, unless I can find some between now and Saturday night, but the rest is all true and we’re terribly excited.
Because neither bf, nor I, have any family in the NYC area, our friends have really become a family for us. That being said, it’s important to us that they’re all around to celebrate our recent-ish (well a year ago) home-ownership.
Of course I invited my actual family but because they are so far away (Maine, Florida, North Carolina etc.), nobody could make it. Well I thought nobody could make it, until Sunday afternoon when I asked my mom if she had any interest in coming down to visit. She said she really wanted to.
Without thinking, I pulled up Kayak.com and did a quick search for flights. Conveniently, I found a last minute flight from Bangor, ME to NYC for only $300. So I booked the ticket and told mom, come on down. I didn’t think about the money, I didn’t worry about the cost or the impact booking the flight would have on this month’s savings, I just booked it.
Life is short and you never get time back. Why not use some of our money to do some of the things that are important to us? We work really hard for our money, so we have to have some fun now and then.
Bottom line-family comes first and you can’t put a price on having your mom at your housewarming.
