Compromising Saved Me Money

I wanted to hang out with sheep

If patience is a virtue, then compromise is patience’s best friend. I have to admit I’m not always the most patient, but I do try to make compromises when it comes to relationships and money. Sometimes I make compromises out of necessity and other times I make compromises because I’m a good girlfriend (wink).

This weekend was a prime example of relationship compromises. Here’s the scenario: bf wants to watch the patriots/jets game. I want to go to the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival. Long story short we were going to go to the sheep and wool festival on Saturday and watch the Patriots game on Sunday. We both get to do what we want to do and both of us are happy, right? Unfortunately, our dog walker wasn’t available this Saturday and we couldn’t leave the dog at home all day without a walk (well would could, but it would have been a really long day for him and I felt bad leaving him for that long).

Instead I hung out with these two

I suggested we go to the festival Sunday instead, but bf reminded me that Sundays are off limits until February (Actually, not all Sundays, just Sundays when the Patriots are playing). I’m not going to lie, initially I was pretty annoyed that bf wanted to watch the game instead of going to the festival. We’ve gone every year since we started dating and it’s something I look forward to all year. But the bf really wanted to watch the game and offered to buy me the yarn I’ve been eying from one of my favorite farms. So I decided to compromise and forgo the festival. I had a bunch of stuff I needed to do around the house anyway, so at least I could be a little bit productive.

And the more I thought about it, the decision not to go to the festival was probably a good one for my wallet too. I tend to spend a fair bit of money buying yarn and specialty foods at the festival, so it might actually be a good thing I’m at home writing this post instead of spending money on yarn and supplies I don’t really need. So I guess it’s sort of a win-win. Thanks to the bf and the Patriots for helping me stick to my budget!

Have you made a compromise recently? Did it work out in your favor?
